Weekly Dev Log #3 (Alex Rutishauser)


Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

This is Alex Rutishauser here again giving you an update on week 3 of development for Deadshot! 

Goals for the team this past week: 

  • Get all of our work onto one project folder to create a complete prototype with mechanics and such
  • Resolve GitHub issues 
  • Collaborate to complete GDD for Deadshot!
  • Fix wall jumping or find an alternative 

Which of these Goals have been accomplished by the team? 

  • We managed to fix the issues we've been having with with GitHub and our projects, so now we have one project file with everything included (Movement, shooting, etc.)
  • We can now easily push, pull, and commit our work easily with no issues as of right now
  • Worked with my team on the GDD for Deadshot! and completed it to the best of our ability 

What are the team's goals for next week?

  • Import rest of custom assets/work on other assets we'll need for Deadshot!
  • Review player feedback and improve on what players suggested
  • Brainstorm ideas on how we can improve and innovate the game in its current stage

What have you accomplished this past week?

  • I managed to clean up code that wasn't working previously, so now everything is more organized and clear. You can now see what events are supposed to occur in the game 
  • I tried to continue experimenting with wall jumping, but found that the first method I tried wasn't working really well. So, I decided to try using the walls with ladder behavior as an alternative which didn't look bad but we'll have to see what players think of the change. 
  • Worked with my team on the GDD for Deadshot! and completed it to the best of our ability 

What will you accomplish by next week?

  • Review player feedback from class, see what they feel about some of the changes we made, and overall to try and make movement more fluid (Specifically wall jumping and running)
  • Import more custom assets and create events for those assets

What Will you need to learn to accomplish these goals? 

  • What I'll need to learn is how players feel about the changes I made for wall jumping and see if they like it or not. If not, I'd love to hear their feedback and ways I can improve
